MicroStation file descriptions

The roadway design pages are for the guidance of design engineers, technicians, and inspection personnel engaged in roadway design, plan preparation, and construction for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). It is prepared to encourage uniform application of designs and standard details in plan preparation of roadways and other related facilities.

General instructions for WisDOT standard roadway design files

Each of these files is a self-extracting compressed file containing one or more standard roadway design MicroStation cell or resource files. The ms_ extracted files are intended for use in MicroStation version J/7 and the v8_ extracted files are intended for use in MicroStation version 8. These files should extract properly using Windows.

If you are using Netscape as your Web browser, click on a file to start the download process. Then, in File Manager or Explorer, double-click on the downloaded file to start the extraction process. If you are using Internet Explorer as your Web browser, click on a file to start the extraction process directly. The files will extract into the c:\temp directory by default. You will have the option of extracting the files into any directory you choose by overtyping the target path. If the desired directory does not exist, it will be created for you. These files must be moved to the correct directories as described below to be used by MicroStation.

The following file contents are presented visually as Adobe PDF documents. Some of these files are large and may require long download times.

ms_det.exe and v8_det.exe

Each of these files contain MicroStation cell libraries containing the typical details used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Twelve files -- cdbemgrd (0.3 MB), cdcrbgtr (0.5 MB), cddrnage (1.1 MB), cdexcgrd (0.4 MB), cdinlman (0.5 MB), cdintshl (0.4 MB), cdislmed (0.5 MB), cdjoints (0.2 MB), cdmisc (0.2 MB), cdtraffic (0.4 MB), cdtyps (0.5 MB) and cdwldvrl (0.5 MB) are in English units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the cells category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

ms_erosn.exe and v8_erosn.exe

Each of these files contain MicroStation cell libraries containing the typical erosion details used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Erosionc (1.7 MB) is in English units. This file should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the cells category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

ms_lnsty.exe

This file contains two MicroStation resource files containing the custom line styles used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Ewdotudl (0.3 MB) is in English units. Mwdotudl is in metric units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the symbology category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration. This file must also be placed on your plot server if you are using Intergraph IPLOT software for plotting.

ms_psht.exe and v8_psht.exe

Each of these files contain MicroStation cell libraries containing the typical plan sheets used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Plansht (2.1 MB) is in English units. This file should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the cells category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

ms_seed.exe

This file contains four MicroStation design files set up to be used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Seed2d.dgn and seed3d.dgn are in English foot units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the seed files category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

v8_seed.exe

This file contains two MicroStation design files set up to be used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Seed2d.dgn and Seed3d.dgn are in English Survey foot units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the seed files category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

ms_sign.exe and v8_sign.exe

Each of these files contain MicroStation cell libraries containing the standard signs used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Eight files -- signsd (1.0 MB), signsj (0.6 MB), signsm (0.6 MB), signso (0.6 MB), signsr (2.1 MB), signsw (1.5 MB), signswz (2.5 MB) and signnstd (0.1 MB) are in English units. Only v8_sign contains five files -- exsignsd, exsignsm, exsignso, exsignsr, exsignsw and exsignnstd in English units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the cells category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

v8_ops.exe

This files contains MicroStation cell libraries containing the traffic signal, highway lighting, and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) fiber optic cells used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Signal (0.7 MB), Ltg (0.4 MB), and toc (0.1 MB) are in English units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the cells category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration. ms_ops.exe also contains a MicroStation design (dgn) file, sequence (0.7 MB), for the English sequence of operations sheet.

ms_topog.exe and v8_topog.exe

Each of these files contain MicroStation cell libraries containing the topography cells used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Etopog (1.2 MB) and ewdot (0.9 MB) are in English units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to in the cells category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

v8_dgnlib.exe

This file contains all MicroStation Version 8 level and style library files used in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Wisdot_cadds_levels.dgnlib (0.1 MB) contains v8 levels, Dimensionstyles.dgnlib and Leroytextstyles.dgnlib contain dimension and text styles accordingly. These files should be placed in the correct directories that are referred to for DGN Library List in the Primary Search Paths category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

v8_aero.exe

This file contains all MicroStation Version 8 cell, design and resource files used in the Wisconsin DOT airport design process. All English files are included. These files should be placed in the correct directories that are referred to in the cells, data files, primary search paths and symbology categories of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.

ms_setmgr.exe and v8_setmgr.exe

Each of these files contains MicroStation settings files to use in the Wisconsin DOT roadway design process. Two files -- etopog.stg and ewdot.stg (0.3 MB) are in English units. These files should be placed in the directory that is referred to for settings resource in the Data Files category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace =>Configuration. There are also MicroStation basic macro files included to work with the settings manger files, these files should be placed in the correct directories that are referred to in the primary search paths/macros category of the MicroStation menu command Workspace=>Configuration.
