Local Roads and Streets Council (LRSC)

The WisDOT secretary established the LRSC as an advisory body of local officials to address the continuing impact of federal and state policy changes on local transportation. Along with examining issues and developing recommendations on local road and street issues, the council attempts to foster a cooperative state/local partnership on local transportation issues and to ensure the continued efficient use of public funds.

As requested by the WisDOT Secretary, the LRSC concentrates its efforts on four main areas:

  • Enhance and facilitate communication among various state associations and WisDOT;
  • Investigate the impact of federal legislation on state policies;
  • Evaluate the needs and methods for collecting local road network data and develop policy initiatives based on that data; and
  • Review policies which affect local roads and streets, with special emphasis on cost containment.

A printable LRSC brochure Adobe Acrobat PDF format (258 KB) has been produced providing more information about the Council’s history, formation, importance, and duties.

The LRSC recently updated the General Transportation Aids (GTA) brochure Adobe Acrobat PDF format (932 KB). GTA is the second largest program administered by WisDOT. The program provides over $400 million annually to the 1,923 counties, cities, villages and towns in Wisconsin. The brochure discusses the importance of the program to local governments, how funds are distributed and describes the local role in transportation investments. For more information on GTA, please visit the GTA homepage. To request a hardcopy color brochure, please contact your local governmental association or contact the GTA program manager, Lori Richter at (608) 266-0254, or via email at lori.richter@dot.wi.gov.
