Wisconsin Avenue bridge scheduled to open October 22 in Oshkosh
October 7, 2008
Celebration planned for Saturday, October 11
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) NE Region office at Green Bay is announcing the Wisconsin Street bridge in Oshkosh is tentatively scheduled to open Wednesday, October 22, 2008, following successful testing and final adjustment of the bridge opening equipment. A bridge celebration and dedication is planned for October 11.
A bridge dedication ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, October 11. Both Governor Jim Doyle and Secretary Frank Busalacchi have been invited to attend the event. A parade begins following the ceremony.
The $23 million project, begun in September 2006, replaces the current Wisconsin Street span with a four-lane lift bridge with pedestrian and bicycle access. Additionally, Ohio Street from South Park Avenue to the Fox River bridge in the city of Oshkosh was reconstructed.
The public is encouraged to attend the event. Due to the bridge and approaches not being completed, the public is being asked to park on the north side of the bridge and walk across to the south side of the bridge, where the dedication will take place. The parade will originate with the dedication, cross the bridge and end downtown, where more festivities are scheduled.
