Governor Doyle approves $1.7 million project at Shell Lake Municipal Airport
July 7, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $1,711,486 project to reconstruct airfield pavements and airfield lighting, update the Airport Layout Plan, and design and acquire avigation easements at the Shell Lake Municipal Airport. The Governor's action releases $39,202 in state funds to cover consultant and construction costs, and avigation easement acquisition costs. The City of Shell Lake is contributing another $39,202, and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $1,633,082.
According to David Montesinos, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will facilitate growth at the airport, and ensure safe runway approaches.
The project has already begun and is expected to be completed by winter 2008.
Shell Lake Municipal Airport is located south of the city of Shell Lake on 132 acres. The airport has one paved runway, 3,711 feet long. Approximately 20 single-engine aircraft are based at the airport and a total of 12,550 take-offs and landings occur there each year.
