Governor Doyle approves $22,000 project at Rice Lake Regional Airport
July 8, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $22,000 project to maintain pavement at the Rice Lake Regional Airport. The Governor's action releases $17,600 in state funds to crack-seal, slurry-seal, and re-mark a portion of the aircraft parking ramp and the hangar taxiway at the airport. The City of Rice Lake is contributing $4,400 to the project.
According to Michael Gabor, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will help prevent water infiltration and minimize oxidation effects, both of which cause pavement deterioration. Research shows that the relatively small cost of pavement maintenance significantly delays the very high cost of pavement reconstruction..
The project is scheduled to begin in mid-summer and should be completed by fall 2008.
Facilities at the Rice Lake Regional Airport include a 6,700 primary runway and a 3,500-foot crosswind runway. The airport accommodates 28,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
