Governor approves $165,290 project at J. Douglas Bake Memorial Airport in Oconto
July 11, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $165,290 project to make improvements at the J. Douglas Bake
Memorial Airport in Oconto. The Governor's action releases $4,132 in state funds to procure a piece
of snow removal equipment, slurry seal airport pavements and provide other needed work. The City
and County of Oconto together are providing another $4,133, and the Federal Aviation Administration
is providing $157,025.
According to Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the project will help to maintain the runways in good operating condition.
Facilities at J. Douglas Bake Memorial Airport include a 3,200-foot paved runway and the
1,845-foot turf airstrip. There are some 12,370 aircraft take-offs and landings at the airport each
year.
