Governor Doyle approves $9.7 million project at Dane County Regional Airport
July 11, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $9,679,159 project to make improvements at the Dane County
Regional Airport, in Madison. The Governor's action releases $241,979 in state funds to design and
reconstruct a taxiway, install a new glycol recovery management system, and construct a new
electrical vault building. Dane County is contributing another $241,979 and the Federal Aviation
Administration is providing $9,195,201. U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin was instrumental in securing the
funds for the project.
According to David Montesinos, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the taxiway project will enhance safety at the airport and will provide an updated
and more secure electrical system for the airfield.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2008.
Dane County Airport consists of three paved runways, parallel taxiways, aircraft parking
aprons and ramps, terminal building, and FAA control tower. Currently, 11 airline companies serve
the airport. In 2005, more than 808,000 people flew out of Dane County Airport and cargo
transported totaled 12,260,000 pounds.
