Governor Doyle approves $3,008,050 project at Austin Straubel International Airport
July 14, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $3,008,050 project to construct landside improvements at the
Austin Straubel International Airport, in Green Bay. The Governor's action releases $1,810,240 in
state funds to realign the entrance road to the terminal building, extend a service road to connect
to Airport Road, and construct a new employee parking area. Brown County is contributing $1,197,810
to the project.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the project will improve airport landside operations and will allow for future
expansion of parking facilities and terminal improvements. Vehicle traffic flow through the
terminal area will be improved as well.
The project is scheduled to begin in July 2008 and should be completed by November 2008.
Austin Straubel International Airport is located southwest of the city of Green Bay. It is a
primary service air carrier airport, with two concrete runways, 7,700 feet and 8,200 feet in
length. The airport has a modern terminal building providing passenger services to the traveling
public. There are 115 aircraft based at the airport, and approximately 70,500 take-offs and
landings occur each year.
