WisDOT holding public information meeting on WIS 17 Monday August 18

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public information meeting to discuss proposed improvements to WIS 17 between St. Louis Road and Vilas County A in the town of Phelps.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 18, 2008 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Phelps Fire Department, 4499 Town Hall Road, Phelps. The meeting will follow an open house format. Maps and exhibits of the planned improvements will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the proposed improvements and answer questions.

Local officials, property owners and other interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Reconstruction of the highway between St. Louis Road and Holiday Lodge
  • Replacement of the pavement and regrading the highway between Holiday Lodge and Deerskin Road
  • Reconstruction of the highway between Deerskin Road and Town Hall Road
  • Resurfacing the highway between Town Hall Road and Vilas County

Construction is scheduled to begin in late April 2009.

WIS 17 will be closed to through traffic and detoured via US 45/WIS 32 and County E when crews are working between St. Louis Road and County E. Local access to the highway will be maintained during this time. WIS 17 will remain open to traffic when crews are working between County E and County A. Motorists can expect to encounter flagging operations.

Construction is scheduled for completion in November 2009.

Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Thomas Krizenesky, WisDOT, 510 North Hanson Lake Road, Rhinelander, WI, 54501. Citizens who are hearing-impaired and require an interpreter may request one by contacting Thomas Krizenesky at least three working days prior to the meeting via the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay system (dialing 711).
