Governor Doyle approves $226,000 project at Wausau Downtown Airport
August 5, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $226,000 project to construct an access road to T-hangars at the
Wausau Downtown Airport. The Governor's action releases $5,650 in state funds to help complete the
project. The city of Wausau is also contributing $5,650, and the Federal Aviation Administration is
providing $214,700.
According to Terry Ripp, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the project will give tenants a safer route to their hangars and alleviate driving
on airfield pavements. The access road will enhance safety at the airport and eliminate
vehicle-aircraft encounters.
The project is scheduled to begin this fall and should be completed before the end of 2008.
Along with the primary runway, facilities at the Wausau Downtown Airport include a 3,036-foot
crosswind runway and a seaplane base on Lake Wausau/Wisconsin River.
