Governor Jim Doyle approves I-39/US 10 east interchange improvements in Portage County
August 14, 2008
As part of his “Grow Wisconsin” initiative to invest in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and stimulate our state’s economy, Governor Jim Doyle recently signed a $831,000 contract to improve the I-39 southbound/US 10 exit ramps in Portage County. Construction is currently scheduled to begin on September 2, 2008.
Earth, Inc. of Arpin is the prime contractor for the project. Improvements include:
- Addition of a deceleration lane to the southbound exit ramp
- Replacement of the ramp pavement
- Addition of a second right-turn lane for eastbound US 10 traffic
- Traffic signal adjustments
Traffic impacts during construction include:
- The southbound exit ramp for US 10 will be closed during construction. Traffic will be detoured east on County HH and north on County R.
- The I-39 southbound on ramp will be closed for approximately two weeks during traffic signal improvements and pavement rehabilitations. Traffic will be detoured south on County R and west on County HH.
- Traffic may be restricted to one lane on southbound I-39 between 6 a.m. Monday and noon on Friday.
- US 10 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Ninety percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds, the remaining 10 percent will be paid with state transportation funds. Construction is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2008.
