Wisconsin State Patrol Southeast Region to mobilize all officers for 'Blue Day' traffic enforcement on Aug. 19
August 14, 2008
The Wisconsin State Patrol Southeast Region will mobilize all of its officers, including its command staff, for additional patrols on Tuesday, Aug. 19, along highways in Kenosha, Racine, Waukesha, Walworth, Washington and Ozaukee counties to increase compliance with traffic safety laws through high-visibility enforcement.
"We're calling it our Blue Day event because motorists on Southeast Wisconsin highways will be
seeing many more blue State Patrol cruisers and blue uniformed troopers and inspectors starting at
midnight and throughout the day on Tuesday, Aug. 19," says Capt. Varla Bishop, Southeast Region
commander. "We will be stringently enforcing all traffic laws, including speeding, driving while
impaired, not wearing a safety belt, not using proper child safety restraints, and vehicle
equipment violations. Our goal is not to write more tickets. Instead, we're trying to increase
voluntary compliance with traffic safety laws to prevent crashes. However, if voluntary compliance
fails, we'll be prepared to ticket those who choose to break traffic safety laws."
