Public information meeting August 28 for WIS 35 freeway conversion

August 18, 2008

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a public information meeting (PIM) on Thursday, August 28, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Troy Town Hall, located at WIS 35 and Glover Road, to discuss plans for the future conversion of approximately three miles of WIS 35 between Radio Road and Coulee Trail to a freeway. This meeting will follow an informal open house format and will present local service roads for public review and comment.  A short presentation will be made at 6:30 p.m.

This PIM is an opportunity to review and comment on the preliminary design and proposed right-of-way for local service roads that will provide alternative access for properties that currently have direct access onto WIS 35 between Radio Road and Coulee Trail. The conversion of WIS 35 to a freeway will include an overpass to replace the existing at-grade intersection at WIS 35 and Glover Road. The study also includes a layout for a half interchange to and from the north only at WIS 35 and Glover Road.

WisDOT anticipates increasing traffic volumes and continued development along the WIS 35 corridor between River Falls and Hudson.  This growth will eventually require improvements to WIS 35 in the area.  Planning for the future is critical to ensure orderly development that harmonizes with future improvements.

An Environmental Assessment is being conducted as part of the project to identify potential impacts of the freeway conversion. Persons with an interest in, or knowledge about, historical and archaeological resources in the project area are also invited to present such information at the meeting.

Representatives from WisDOT and its project consultants, Ayres Associates and Northern Wisconsin-Based Engineers, Inc., will be on hand to answer questions and discuss project specifics.

Members of the Troy Town Board and the Town of Troy Plan Commission may also be present at the meeting.

For information about the project or the public information meeting, contact WisDOT’s Project Manager, Terry Pederson at (715) 836-2857, Jeff Abramson of Ayres Associates at (715) 834-3161, or Heather Harrington of Northern Wisconsin-Based Engineers, Inc. at (715) 634-4334.

The meeting site is handicapped accessible. Hearing impaired individuals may request special accommodations by calling Wisconsin Telecommunication Relay System (TTY) at 1-800-947-3529.
