Governor Doyle announces $3.5 million for projects at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport
August 19, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved $3,517,095 for two taxiway projects at the Southern Wisconsin
Regional Airport, in Janesville. The Governor's action releases $87,927 in state funds for the
project. Rock County is contributing $87,928 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing
$3,341,240.
According to Wendy Hottenstein, airport development engineer with the state Department of
Transportation, the projects involve constructing taxiway D and t-hangar taxiways, as well as
removing old t-hangars to make room for new corporate hangars. The projects will provide a new
t-hangar site and additional room for future development. Taxiway D will be a connecting taxiway,
from Runway 22 to the cargo ramp; this will provide a better flow of aircraft traffic and eliminate
runway crossovers, which can be dangerous.
The projects are scheduled to begin in August 2008 and should be completed by spring 2009.
Facilities at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport include three paved runways, with a
series of parallel and connecting taxiways and apron areas. The runways are 7,300 feet, 6,700 feet
and 5,000 feet in length. Approximately 130 aircraft are based at the airport and about 77,000
take-offs and landings occur there each year.
