Governor Doyle approves $85,000 project at Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport
September 22, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved an $85,000 project to upgrade the automated weather observation
system (AWOS) at the Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Municipal Airport. The Governor's action releases
$2,125 in state funds to help complete the project. The cities of Baraboo and Wisconsin Dells,
along with the village and town of Lake Delton, are contributing another $2,125, and the Federal
Aviation Administration is providing $80,750.
According to Craig Butler, project manager with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation,
the project will enable the Federal Aviation Administration to continue to publish aircraft
instrument approach procedures for the airport that have lower minimums. These lower minimums will
provide inbound aircraft greater access to the airport.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008.
Facilities at the Baraboo-Wisconsin Dells Airport include a 4,795-foot paved runway and
2,740-foot turf airstrip that together accommodate some 34,000 take-offs and landings each year.
