The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has announced that work will begin this week on several projects to make local improvements prior to construction on the I-94 North-South Corridor project.

“The reconstruction and expansion of I-94 from the Mitchell Interchange in Milwaukee through Racine and Kenosha counties will officially begin in 2009,” said Bob Gutierrez, project director with WisDOT. “This preliminary work will prepare alternate routes, improve intersections and ensure that traffic will flow smoothly during the I-94 project.”

  • Extend northbound and southbound Loomis Road left turn lanes at westbound and eastbound on-ramps.
  • Install a new traffic signal at Loomis and Layton Avenue intersection.

Additional preparatory work will take place this fall underneath the freeway at Grange Avenue to relocate a water main. Some temporary lane closures will occur at Grange Avenue as needed this fall through spring 2009. Work will also take place to modify the intersection of the northbound I-94 off-ramp and Rawson Avenue. I-94 will remain open in the area, with some temporary lane closures at Rawson Avenue this fall.
