Public meeting for US 18 (Moreland Boulevard & Bluemound Road) in Waukesha County Wednesday September 24
September 24, 2008
Meeting to focus on providing information and gathering public input on preliminary plans to resurface the highway with added safety improvements
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Southeast Regional Office in Waukesha is announcing a public information meeting to provide preliminary plans for the resurfacing and additional safety improvements to US 18 (Moreland Boulevard & Bluemound Road) between Manhattan Drive in Waukesha and 124th Street in Elm Grove.
This work will further enhance the median improvements currently under construction along the US 18 segment between Barker Road and Moorland Road. Improvements being considered include further modifications to medians, consolidating or closing driveways, limiting roadway access from side streets to US 18, and reconfiguring turn lanes. Continuous bikeway and sidewalk feasibility is also being evaluated. WisDOT is seeking public input prior to determining which options will advance and which may not be feasible for inclusion in the resurfacing project scheduled to occur in 2011 and 2012.
The public meeting is scheduled from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at Swanson Elementary School Cafeteria, 305 North Calhoun Road, Brookfield. A brief presentation will be made both at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. (Construction is currently taking place at the intersection of Bluemound and Calhoun Roads but access to the school is open.)
This meeting will be informal with display maps illustrating the seven-mile project, with all of the proposed improvement options. Representatives from WisDOT will be available to discuss the plan options and to address questions and concerns. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input, and ask questions concerning this project.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, contact project manager Bruce Barnes at (262) 548-5892. Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Bruce Barnes, WisDOT, PO Box 798, Waukesha, WI 53187-0798.
