I-94 North-South Corridor preparatory work update

November 3, 2008

Construction schedule: Nov. 3 through Nov. 14, 2008

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is announcing the following closures necessary for preparatory work for the I-94 North-South Corridor:

  • Loomis Rd./Layton Ave.
    • Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction next week. Median closures will remain in effect until Wednesday, Nov. 5.  Crews will switch traffic patterns to close the outside lanes on Loomis Rd. and Layton Ave. The westbound Layton Ave. right turn to northbound Loomis Rd. bypass lane will be closed 9 a.m. to 2 pm. daily. The eastbound Layton to southbound Loomis right turn bypass will be closed daily 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well.
    • Two lanes of I-894 will be closed in both directions for striping on Nov. 10 and 11 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The on and off ramps from Loomis Road will also be closed for the same time period on Nov. 10.
  • 27th St. and Layton Ave.
    • Median closures will remain in place until Nov. 5. Traffic patterns will switch to close the outside lanes for storm sewer, electrical and concrete work.
  • I-94 and Rawson Ave.
    • The ramp from westbound I-94 to westbound Rawson Ave., and from eastbound Rawson to I-94 westbound will be closed for one day the week of Nov. 10 for pavement marking.

All closures are weather-dependent.

The reconstruction and expansion of I-94 from the Mitchell Interchange in Milwaukee through Racine and Kenosha counties will officially begin in 2009. This preliminary work will prepare alternate routes, improve intersections and ensure that traffic will flow smoothly during the I-94 project.
