Wisconsin Avenue (WIS 96) in Grand Chute to be opened by Thanksgiving

Safer intersections, wider roadway in store for Grand Chute area motorists
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) NE Regional office at Green Bay is announcing WIS 96 (Wisconsin Avenue) in Grand Chute near the Fox River Mall will be completely open by Thanksgiving.
According to WisDOT NE Region Director Mike Berg, “We pushed hard to complete as much of this project as we could. We will have it completely open by Thanksgiving with more traffic capacity to accommodate the traditional shopping rush that comes with the holiday.”
Berg added, “Drivers should see more lanes open by this Friday with all traffic controls pulled off to the side of the road by the end of the day Wednesday, November 26. The road and intersections will be completely open. We’ll be removing the orange barrels from the project area during the week following Thanksgiving, but there will be no traffic impacts.”
WisDOT expanded Wisconsin Avenue from two lanes to four lanes from Casaloma Drive to the west past County CB. From approximately Craftsman Drive to just east of WIS 76, the roadway received a new overlay, providing a better and safer riding surface. Slotted left turn lanes from Wisconsin Avenue to the side streets were built at Casaloma Drive, McCarthy Road, Mayflower Road and County CB, making these intersections safer.
Some work still needs to be done, but was suspended due to the winter weather. WisDOT will temporarily pave the intersections with asphalt rather than concrete in order to open them up. Additionally, three foot gravel shoulders will be placed in those areas along the medians where curb and gutter still needs to be installed.
WisDOT anticipates resuming this work in mid to late April 2009.
