Governor Doyle approves $1,364,822 for projects at Outagamie County Airport
November 24, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved $1,364,822 for several improvement projects at the Outagamie County
Regional Airport, in Appleton. The Governor's action releases $618,680 in state funds towards these
projects, with Outagamie County contributing $186,813. The Federal Aviation Administration is
providing $559,329. U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen was instrumental in securing some of the federal funds
for the project.
According to Andrew Trimble, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the projects will continue Phase 3 of the general aviation relocation project at
the airport. One of the main goals of the relocation is to provide separation between commercial
and civil users of the airfield. This phase of the project will construct a new connector taxiway
that will allow aircraft to move more efficiently. A self-service refueling area will be added for
general aviation aircraft. Landscaping the new access road to the relocated general aviation area
at the airport will provide an attractive business appearance to the entrance area, Trimble said.
The projects are expected to begin in fall 2008 and should be completed by summer 2009.
The Outagamie County Regional Airport is home to 52 single-engine, 13 multi-engine and 4 jet
aircraft, and is served by four airlines. Altogether, there are nearly 50,000 take-offs and
landings at the airport each year.
