Governor Doyle approves $42,263 project at Austin Straubel International Airport
November 26, 2008
Governor Jim Doyle has approved a $42,263 project to reimburse land costs at the Austin Straubel
International Airport in Green Bay. The Governor's action releases $1,056 in state funds to
reimburse the airport for land it purchased to provide protection for runway approaches. Brown
County is contributing $1,056 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $40,150.
According to Matt Malicki, airport development engineer with the Wisconsin Department of
Transportation, the airport has been active in acquiring land for future work in advance of
construction, and in acquiring land to preserve and protect clear approaches to the airfield.
Austin Straubel International Airport is located southwest of the city of Green Bay. It is a
primary service air carrier airport, with two concrete runways, 7,700 feet and 8,200 feet in
length. The airport has a modern terminal building providing passenger services to the traveling
public. There are 115 aircraft based at the airport, and approximately 70,500 take-offs and
landings occur each year.
