West Bend Municipal Airport study

A joint study is being conducted by WisDOT's Bureau of Aeronautics and the Division of Transportation Systems Development to improve the West Bend Municipal Airport and WIS 33.

This proposed project area is located on the east side of the city of West Bend and in the town of Trenton in Washington County.

The study, an environmental impact statement, will determine the boundaries of planned improvements and will further clarify potential environmental impacts. The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WisDNR) also prepared a wetland delineation and functional assessment report for the project area.

The proposed project will:

  • Provide additional runway length to safely accommodate aircrafts.
  • Provide additional roadway capacity to serve existing and forecasted traffic volumes.
  • Improve operational efficiency and safety for airport and highway traffic.

Benefits

Improved airports and highways can:

  • Promote area business growth and improve the regional multi-modal transportation system.
  • Provide lower transportation costs.
  • Increase access to local, regional and statewide commercial, industrial and recreational resources.
  • Influence the direction of travel. For example, an improved airport may increase use by visitors to the annual West Bend Air Fest held at the West Bend Municipal Airport.
