Madison Beltline (US 12/14/18/151) Safety and Operations Study

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a three-phase study of the Madison Beltline (US 12/14/18/15) from just north of the US 12 and US 14 (University Avenue) interchange to the US 12/18 and County N interchange in Dane County.

The purpose of this study, which includes 20 miles of freeway and 18 interchanges:

  • Phase 1 - Identify safety and operational issues along the Beltline.
  • Phase 1 - Analyze existing and future traffic volumes.
  • Phases 2 and 3 - Develop and prioritize improvements that extend the useful life of the Madison Beltline without adding capacity.

Individually, the improvements developed by this study will improve localized interchanges and/or freeway conditions for 10 to 20 or more years. If the improvements are entirely implemented, they will collectively improve conditions in the entire 20-mile corridor.

The Madison Beltline (US 12/14/18/151) Improvements project page highlights improvements constructed in 2008 or to be built between 2009 and 2012.
