US 14 reconstruction - public involvement

Meetings | Newsletters/handouts/others

Highway projects are cooperatively developed by the public, state and federal review agencies, and WisDOT. Preparing reconstruction projects like those on US 14 takes several years, and extensive effort is always made to keep the public involved and informed.

The development of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was completed at the time the original alignment was selected in the 1970s. WisDOT is moving ahead with the US 14 corridor projects. As required in the public involvement procedures, new meetings have been held with local officials and the public to ensure the results of the original EIS are still applicable to today's residents and environment.

The US 14 public information meetings are an opportunity for current area residents to discuss and provide input on WisDOT's plans to address the existing need for the corridor.

An open forum public hearing is similar to a public information meeting. With a public hearing forms are given to the public for written testimony input of the project. At the hearing a court reporter is located in semi-private areas of the building to record oral testimony for a transcript record. The project statement may be given orally, in a written format or by means of an audio/visual presentation.

The US 14 public hearing is an opportunity for current area residents and business members to provide their input on anticipated environmental impacts from the proposed corridor design. Their input assists in WisDOT’s determination if significant impacts are anticipated from the proposed design.
