WIS 164 study - environmental documents

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is the decision document for a major highway project like the WIS 164 project. The EIS pulls together community and agency interests, and recommends a future course of action.

An EIS is required by the National and Wisconsin Environmental Policy Acts for projects with potentially significant social, economic, natural resource and other impacts.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is the lead agency for the EIS, which was prepared in accordance with FHWA guidelines.

  • The Draft EIS (DEIS), the first version of the EIS, was completed in April 2001.
  • A public hearing took place in April 2001 after the DEIS became available for public and agency review.
  • The Final EIS (FEIS) was completed in late 2001. The FEIS documented the preferred alternative, basis for its selection, comments on the DEIS and public hearing input.

If you have any questions about the environmental document process or structure, contact the study team.
