WIS 181 project

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is planning to improve 4.5 miles of WIS 181 (North 76th Street) from Florist Avenue to the north Milwaukee County line in 2007 and 2008.

Improvements to the six-lane highway include:

  • Replacing existing pavement.
  • Improving turning movements at several intersections.
  • Replacing drainage structures to improve storm water removal.
  • Adding new sidewalks to improve pedestrian accommodations along the route.
  • Replacing street lighting and traffic signals.
  • Raising the bridge over Brown Deer Road to provide required clearances for trucks. A new bridge deck is also planned.

WIS 181 (N. 76th Street) between Clinton Avenue and North County Line Road

Work to reconstruct 2.67 miles of WIS 181 (N. 76th St.) between Clinton Avenue and North County Line Road is scheduled to begin early March 2008.

WIS 181 will be open to traffic during construction, however, traffic patterns will change throughout the course of project.

  • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction between Clinton Avenue and Tower Avenue.
  • Two northbound lanes and one southbound lane will be maintained from Tower Avenue to WIS 100 (Brown Deer Road).
  • One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction from Brown Deer Road to North County Line Road.

The following detour routes will be posted for through truck traffic to avoid the construction zone:

  • Northbound – WIS 145-US 41/45-WIS 100-WIS 57-WIS 167
  • Southbound – WIS 167-WIS 57-WIS 100-US 41/45-WIS 145
