WIS 38 study

WisDOT is studying WIS 38 from County K in Racine County to Oakwood Road in Milwaukee County.

The nine-mile study will evaluate long-term improvements to traffic flow and safety in the corridor. The engineering and environmental study will:

  • Analyze existing and future traffic demands.
  • Develop alternatives for addressing safety concerns and long term mobility needs.
  • Examine environmental impacts and measures to avoid or minimize impacts.

Major outcomes of the study will include the following:

  • Recommendation of the preferred alternative that proposes expanding WIS 38 to the West from Oakwood Road to 5 Mile Road and realigning WIS 38 to west of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks from 5 Mile Road to County K.
  • An Environmental Assessment.
  • A functional plan.
  • A design study report.

An Environmental Assessment was made available for review and comment and a public hearing took place on August 17, 2006 at the Eastside Community Center, 6156 Douglas Road, Caledonia.

Functional plans that assist local officials in making land use and development decisions for future transportation improvements were developed in fall 2006.
