I-43 and County Y project

Note: I-43 and County Y intersection project was completed Nov. 4, 2009 and is open to traffic.

The I-43 and County Y interchange is one of several major interchanges along I-43 in Waukesha County. This interchange provides access and service to the cities of New Berlin and Muskego.

This project involves the reconstruction of the I-43 and County Y interchange. Elements of the project include:

• The reconstruction of County Y from W. College Avenue to Julius Heil Drive.
• The replacement of the County Y bridge deck over I-43.
• The reconstruction of freeway on/off ramps.
• The replacement of the existing traffic signals with roundabouts at the ramp termini on County Y.

This project is one of several projects intended to maintain I-43 within Waukesha County. The other projects are:

• I-43 resurfacing, US 12 – WIS 83
• I-43 resurfacing, WIS 83 – WIS 164
• I-43 and WIS 164 interchange reconstruction
• I-43 resurfacing, WIS 164 – Moorland Road (County O)
• I-43 and Moorland Road (County O) interchange reconstruction
• I-43 resurfacing, Sunnyslope Road – Hale Interchange

This project will:

• Improve safety for the traveling public.
• Provide the best level of service to those traveling this interchange.
• Accommodate future traffic volumes.
• Reduce maintenance costs by reconstructing the interchange.

Construction started May 11, 2009 and is anticipated to be completed in November 2009, weather dependent.
