Funding

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is administering the distribution of discretionary grants to states for Airport Improvement Program (AIP) projects with funds provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Recovery Act provides for more than $1 billion in discretionary funding nationwide.

Eligibility

Visit the FAA site for detailed information related to project eligibility. In general, AIP projects are projects that enhance planning, development, safety or noise compatibility at public use airports.

Funds are also available for facilities and equipment for improvements to power systems, air route traffic control centers, air traffic control towers, terminal radar approach control facilities, navigation and landing equipment.

Recovery funding priority is being given to projects that can be completed within two years.

Recovery Act funds distributed by FAA must supplement, not supplant, planned expenditures from airport-generated revenues or other state/local sources. Projects must be federally eligible and all federal requirements apply.
