Transportation security on highways
What we're doing to protect the roads
The Wisconsin State Patrol is a division within the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). A relationship exists between local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and the entire transportation infrastructure that enhances communication and response.
- WisDOT is reviewing the transportation network to evaluate how various components are connected and what potential risks exist. Plans have long been in place regarding threats to the state's highway system.
WisDOT has evacuation routes established for the potential closure of part of the transportation network. This includes the need to redirect traffic from an interstate in order to protect motorists or provide access to community along that freeway corridor. The plans were originally drawn up for weather-related catastrophes, and have been used to address problems caused by serious traffic incidents.
Reporting unusual activity
You should contact your local police agency or State Patrol office and report anything you feel should be investigated.
- If you see something you perceive to be an immediate threat to public safety or the state's transportation network, dial 911 and report the situation immediately.
